Power Tool Safety

Operating any power tool, no matter how big or small can be dangerous.  When you use any power tool always make sure that your full attention is on what you are doing.  Below are some tips to help keep you safe, but as always, read your manuals and use common sense.

  • Read Instructions
  • Make sure the tool is unplugged any time you change the blade or bit.
  • Use a push stick for table saws and save your fingers.
  • Always use the blade guard
  • Wear eye protection
  • Wear ear protection
  • Always make sure you are using the correct blade or bit for the job
  • Always make sure the blade or bit is sharp
  • Make sure you always have a first aid kit that is up to date
  • Make sure you have a fire extinguisher nearby that is full.  Try to buy one that covers A-B-C types of fires.
  • Never modify a tool
  • Never remove a safety feature on a tool.  Yes, they can get in the way and be annoying, but they are there for a reason.
  • Never wear loose clothing
  • Never wear jewelry when dealing with electricity.
  • Know how to use the tool the correct way.
  • Never force a tool, let the power tool do the work.
  • Never drink or use drugs while using a power tool.
